Throughout the 1970s, Susan Brock and Shirley Dahlen used the MBTI instrument with clients and organizations. At the national level, both became engaged in the Association for Psychological Type through its biennial conferences. They were elected to the APT board in 1979. In 1980, the first Great Plains Regional APT Conference was held in the Twin Cities.
Sandra Hirsh and Karen Hemphill Stewart joined Shirley and Susan, and the four began meeting informally as a MBTI Interest Group, intending to start a local Twin Cities chapter.
In 1982, TC-APT became “official,” with the formulation of the Purpose, and Guiding and Operating Principles. These loosely defined a structure for the chapter, “sufficient to produce a continuing financially responsible group.”
Regular meetings were held on the 2nd Friday of every month at Noon at Mayflower Congregational Church. In 1997, Christ Presbyterian became the location.
